SoLo Drums Of The Rev

SoLo Drums Of The Rev
Jimmy Owen Sullivan, (born February 10, 1981) better known by his stage name, The Rev, or The Reverend Tholomew Plague is the drummer and back-up vocalist for the band Avenged Sevenfold, and lead vocalist in the Avant-Garde Metal band Pinkly Smooth with fellow Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates. Sullivan currently resides in Huntington Beach, California.

Avenged Sevenfold & Pinkly Smooth

Jimmy is recognized for vocals and piano in his and Synyster Gates' side project, Pinkly Smooth. He is also utilized as a back-up vocalist in Avenged Sevenfold. Besides screaming with lead vocalist M. Shadows in songs Chapter Four and Eternal Rest, the song Critical Acclaim features Sullivan on lead vocals during the chorus of the song, both singing and screaming. His vocals are also featured in other songs from the Avenged Sevenfold eponymous album, such as "A Little Piece of Heaven", "Brompton Cocktail", "Lost", " Afterlife ", and "Almost Easy". The Rev is known for his "drumstick spinning" and his song writing ability, having written songs such as Afterlife.

Pinkly Smouth

Pinkly Smouth
Pinkly Smooth was formed in the summer of 2001, in Huntington Beach, CA and in 2002, they recorded the legendary metal album, "Unfortunate Snort," on Bucktan records. While the lead guitarist and drummer of AVENGED SEVENFOLD, (Synyster Gates & The Reverend), and the lead singer and drummer of BALLISTICO (Buck Silverspur & D-Rock), are on break from touring with their bands, rather than lounging by a hotel pool with a bottle of Old Grand Dad Whiskey, they transform into the mentally deranged... PINKLY SMOOTH! There are many hints that PS's inspiration springs from bands like; Queen, (with their opera-atic vocal harmonies), Meshuggah, (with counter time drumming and guitar riffs), and Danny Elfman, (with Klezmer-like Piano parts from Pee Wee's big adventure).

If
you are seriously into heavy metal, and are open to an artistically progressive approach to heavy metal, with vocals that that differ from the voices that exist in metal today, then you should get "Unfortunate Snort," and proceed to bang you head and bounce off the walls!

A7X Debate goes on.

A7X Debate goes on.
Lately it seems like all I do is bitch about different things. I do hope that I will be able to find something cheery to write about soon.

I have been slapped in the face for the last 2 years by a constant complaint. Not by everyone mind you but enough that it's starting to make my whole being hurt and especially my heart. I want to make one thing clear at the beginning. Avenged Sevenfold has and I expect never ever will make a bad album. If their 4 +(Diamonds in the rough) preceeding albums are any indication.

The complaint that keeps setting my heart on fire is that Avenged Sevenfold the Album is their worst ever album. Now, as they say this isn't my first rodeo. I have been on this earth long enough to see and know talent and growth in bands and by A7X the albums success and writing ability this is one if not the best Album yet.

I also want to make it clear that I do love Waken the Fallen. It shows a strong 2nd album showing. Thats about as good as it gets. I keep hearing repeated over and over how Waken the Fallen is the best album the band has ever made. And if anyone of you strong believers that wtf is the best album that the band has ever had have ever watched the "All Excess" DVD you would realize that you are so much in love with the musical mastery of Mudrock (the producer). Oh yeah A7X Sang, played and mostly wrote the lyrics to the album but Mudrock by his own admission as well as the bands said that he had to rewrite the arrangements and beat them up on alot of things. The guys at that point had no idea what it took to create an album and there is absolutely nothing whatsoever wrong with that. We all have to learn. If you don't believe what I just said then be my guest and rewatch/watch the DVD its right there!!

Also while you are at the DVD watching do me a favor and rewatch/watch the MVI one more time. It's the second pain my heart has in it. In the MVI you will see how awesomely proud the band is of the Avenged Sevenfold Album. I am now gonna say something that will probably be highly offensive to some people but it is something that I truely believe in and you can always trust me to tell you the truth as I see it. There are differences in Follower and listeners. I will define them for you. A Follower is a person who believes in their heart that Avenged Sevenfold is the best and only band that lives in their heart. They defend them to the end! A listener would be someone who only likes Waken the Fallen. Someone who likes say Seize the day or Afterlife or some random song off any of the albums. I think you get my point. They probably listen to whatever suites them on that particular day. They have many bands they listen too but not really looking for a commitment and thats fine just keep in mind that its your opinion just as this blog is mine. I believe listeners really don't have an opinion.

Everytime someone puts A7X the Album down it sticks a knife in the bands hearts. They are utterly proud of it and they have every right to be proud! They sank so much into the writing, playing, singing and every aspect of it. There is no mudrock as they were their own producers. This is the true Avenged Sevenfold and I love them!

I hope that you will understand better about this situation and try to look at it in a more mature manner. Instead of being a listener become a follower.

One last thing that makes me angry is the sell-out debate. Let me give you a for instance that I hope you will be able to understand. Now most people who read this blog will fit into the Teen/early 20's age bracket. You are all starting out. When you start out you have to have a first job right? Okay many of you will start out in fast food or retail. Both are not very well paying. Now I know you will one day want more pay and better benefits ect. what we all want outta life, something better. Now Avenged Sevenfold coulda stayed right there in that little club in Cali. forever making all those kids who enjoy STST and WTF happy until they went away aka grew up but they too wanted more out of life. They wanted that good paying job with benefits. Just as All the youth of the nation want someday for themselfs. Now the next time you utter the word sell-out I want you to look at your own hopes and dreams for yourself. If you don't want to be a sell out then you can't ever leave that Mcdonalds or Walmart job because you will be selling out yourself!

Hope this hits home with a few of you!

Deathbat love and respect always!!

The Underoath dis.
If you haven't hear what all the hoopla is about here is the peice from Metal Hammer....

Look's like Underoath guitarist Tim McTague isn't exactly an Avenged Sevenfold fan. We just came across the following interview on Metal Hammer...Underoath: “Avenged Sevenfold Are A Gimmick”Underoath guitarist Tim McTague has a few choice words about Avenged Sevenfold.“People might associate us with Avenged Sevenfold because they're pissed republicans and 'so metal', but they're a gimmick, they're a circus. They can't play and they can't write a song. What's worse is the way they look. If you need to have make-up and crappy names like Synyster Gates to sell records, then you shouldn't be here. That's not rock'n'roll to me. Arena rock maybe, but not real rock'n'roll. If you're basing yourself on how cool you are or how many girls you can trick into thinking your band is cool you can just... take that home. I'm not saying that's what Avenged Sevenfold do, but they do a lot of crap that makes me think, 'that's why you and us will never be the same'. At the same time, we don't write a really heavy record 'just to show all those Avenged Sevenfold fans what real metal is like. Metal Hammer

I have tried very hard to be adult about this but this is my website and I am gonna let loose.
Where the hell does this little shit eating suck guitarist get off running his mouth about Avenged Sevenfold? I keep reminding myself that he is just jealous and wanting to be what Brian/Synyster Gates is. I do plan to go tomorrow and read the entire article because I hope it is taken outta context somehow. We have endured so much hatred from random people and we have a pretty thick skin. (hint: if you are a newby A7X fan you need to get one because you will be hated on like no other)I have realized that most of these haters just are uneducated but This little prick has no idea or actually he does know that Brian is by far better than he ever will be. It is jealousy that is all it is too it!
What's up with the republican insult. Yes I know it's not popular to be republican these day but this is still the USA and we can vote or register however we want. I bet he hasn't even voted before!
Mr. Gates puts on the eyeliner like no other but it does not make or break his performance! He would still kick ass. It's in his blood he has raw talent! Their nicknames have always been a source of shitty comments!
I must remind everyone here that Arena Rock ruled the world. At present no Rock rules the world. Hip-hop rules the world. Which so sucks! He needs to not knock something he can never achieve! Avenged Sevenfold with the help of their fans can put them on top and they will rule the world. The days of arena rock were awesome.
I think I can speak for the female crowd here and say that if Avenged Sevenfold actually were as ugly as Underoath but still sounded like themselves we would still love and adore them. The looks are just like gravy on your mash potatos!! Now I predict a dry streak for Mr. McTague at least by every true metal chick out there! He Has royaly dissed us all! I say Fuck him!!! Asshole!!
And Lastly We as Avenged Sevenfold fans Never Ever want to be as sucky as these jokers! We want to remain as far different from them as we can get!! So he gets his wish there!
Thanks for reading my rant! Maybe I will feel better later! I will never ever purchase anything with UnderOath any where on it. I urge you to do the same!

Asheville, NC Show 03/28/2008
The Asheville show was absolutely wonderful. Robert, me, Buffie, her sister Bre, and Heather all went to show together. When we got there we had a spot at the front of the line saved by our friends and fellow A7XES Rachel Gates, Mad Gates, and Brooke. When they finally opened the gate to go in mass chaos ensued. Everyone was headed for the pit as fast as they could.
The show was long because we really wanted to see the guys but anticipation is sometimes sweet. We enjoyed Papa Roach. He is very high energy and a fun performer. He is main stream enough that even those who don't really follow the band know at least a couple of their songs. Burn Halo was okay. Buckcherry sucked as usual!!
But when our fav 5 from Cali took the stage all eyes were on the prize. We had managed to get some dogtags to the guys before the show and luckily they were wearing them. Well at least Matt, Johnny, and Zack was. We don't know about Jimmy because lets face it who can see him. As always Brian is simply Synfully himself!
They put on one awesome show. Their new screens add a new level to the show. Very colorful and pleasing to the eye. My favorite one was the bleeding A7X.
The highlight of the show was when Matt gave the A7XES a shout out on stage. I was so shocked I couldn't move for a few minutes. I know my jaw dropped open.
Sadly it had to end! It always does but we will be patient and enjoy going to see them again as soon as they get within reach.
I only have one complaint. That is the security was total asses. Inside the employees were very courtious but outside they were rude. They made everyone leave because as they said we know they won't come out because they didn't in Johnson City and threatened us with the police. They can count on one thing from their actions we won't return to their facility unless A7X is there because of our treatment.
But all and all it was a very awesome night!!
Thanks Buffie for a fun ride to and from the show. Thank God for Ihop or we would all have fainted before we got home. We really enjoyed our trip. You are one fun person! We will do it again!!

Shame on the A7X Fans!
As everyone knows or should know we are devoted Avenged Sevenfold Fans and every possible chance we get we go see them. If possible we would go to every tour date they list. Sadly there is no way. In the early days there was a large amount of jealousy among the A7X fans themselves and that got to be old hat to us. No big deal. So everyone was jocking for position.

Of course. we had our haters and it seems like they were more frequent then. I guess every band does. We continued to hold our heads high because we knew who we were fans of. Now it appears that we are being put down for our inability to be nice to the fans of one of the worse bands around. Most A7X fans I have personally talked to agrees with my opinion of this particular band. The bands name is none other than BuckCherry or as we like to call them suckcherry or Yuckcherry. Now I personally think the lead singer sounds like a chipmunk on speed. Rob and myself literally almost fell asleep during their set in Asheville and we left before they could take the stage in Greensboro, NC. Last night in particular there was one of their bleeding heart fans on the guys myspace complaining about how mean the A7X fans were to them and how we said nasty things about them. So what! We as Avenged Sevenfold fans have to put up with it almost daily if we are living our lives the Avenged Sevenfold way because it is a lifestyle. I say grow the fuck up and realize life isn't fair and you aren't always gonna have people shooting sunshine up your ass. We certainly don't. Personally we have been to many shows where there was no problems with the other act.

I can enlighten these so called Buckcherry fans by telling them why we mostly have a problem with them. In my assessment, we don't really like them because how dare such a discusting excuse for a band think they are good enough to share head lining a tour with our guys. No one and I do mean no one has that right. Now we can live with the guys opening for some greats ie.. Metallica, Ozzy Ozzborne and maybe even Iron Maiden.

If you see one of these babies crying because they don't have the respect of the average tried and true Avenged Sevenfold fan then pat them on the back and tell them to grow the fuck up!!!!!

Avenged-Sevenfold

Avenged-Sevenfold
They're cheesy. They sing nowadays; they should scream like they used to. They're sellouts.”

T
hey fight. They fuck. They destroy hotel rooms.

They're mi
sunderstood.

They are
warm. They are loyal. They are brave. They are authentic.

They are di
sciplined.

As musicians, the members of Avenged Sevenfold are definite virtuosos in a time when being accomplished artists seemingly means so little. They are inquisitive and never fully satisfied with their own work. They seek to grow and improve every day, regardless of the obstacles or costs involved.

They are a
rock band. They are rock stars. They are Avenged Sevenfold.

Avenged S
evenfold, the album, is a self-produced effort. While the band shared co-production credit on 2005's million-selling City Of Evil with Mudrock, this new album is solely their responsibility — and they're primed to accept it.

But attain
ing such stature didn't arrive in an overnight jaunt. To the contrary, Avenged Sevenfold had been an integral part of the independent, underground rock scene years before breaking through on commercial radio. In fact, the Orange County, California-based act launched its career several years ago (they were barely out of high school) with the release of its debut in July 2001 of Sounding The Seventh Trumpet.

M
iles of van touring ensued, performing in tightly packed clubs, and sweating shoulder-to-shoulder on both national and international levels. Despite the truly D.I.Y. affair (which still found the fledgling act putting on an eye-opening, elaborate stage show), Avenged Sevenfold never offered anything less than a full-throttle set. The band released its second independent full-length in August 2003, Waking The Fallen, a couple years later, greatly expanding on its metal-based foundation and giving us a not-so-subtle nudge that something exciting was in the imminent forecast.

Our suspicions
were confirmed a couple years later, with Avenged Sevenfold's breakthrough 2005 Warner Bros. debut, City Of Evil, featuring the wildly popular single “Bat Country.” That was the turning point for the fearless, genre-bending quintet that, after years of clocking in on the independent level, had finally advanced towards a milestone they had been seeking throughout their careers.
A7X wrapped 18 months of relentless touring in October 2006 and immediately began writing Avenged Sevenfold. After the success of City Of Evil — where they proved they had truly captured the imagination of music fans of all shapes and sizes — they became the only band to headline Warped Tour and Ozzfest while simultaneously hitting Number One on MTV's TRL. The natural question was whether the band would continue its creative odyssey or return to the formula that brought them such success on the last go-around. Thankfully, they continued their musical exploration without caving in to any outside influences.

For this self-titled release, the act returned to the garage at M. Shadows' parents' home where these high-school friends had penned every other song in their discography. The band sought to delve into genres and recording techniques they had discovered on the road. For instance, they wanted to incorporate the narrative lyrics and biting guitar tones they'd admired in country music, as well as the powerful bottom end of hip-hop they felt would only add to the power of their music and message.

“All those months on the b
us we really weren't finding new rock that was moving us,” says frontman M. Shadows. “Instead, we were listening to everything from Toby Keith to T.I., and finding elements we could incorporate into what we were doing to make our next record more interesting to us.”

In t
he studio, Avenged Sevenfold enlisted engineers Fred Archambault and Dave Schiffman (System Of A Down, Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers), and the team went to work.

T
he resulting sound and rhythm of Avenged Sevenfold is, in a word, eclectic. Yet it's still trademark A7X. “'Scream' has a groove we really wanted to inject into this record,” says guitarist Synyster Gates. “And on 'Lost,' you can hear the influence melodic bands like NOFX have always had on our band.”

A
7X composed the string sections, including the individual instrument orchestration, with the assistance of Marc Mann and Steve Bartek from Oingo Boingo (and who currently orchestrate for Danny Elfman). With the soaring strings in “Afterlife,” the haunting and theatrical performance of “A Little Piece Of Heaven,” or the gentle vocals of a child in “Unbound,” the band's creative and varied approach is surprising. Percussionist Lenny Castro brought a dynamic to “Brompton Cocktail,” and noted pedal steel and banjo player Greg Leisz added a country flair to the song “Dear God.” Yet as Gates adds, “it's the dueling guitars, Shadows' voice and the Rev's brutality that make every one of the songs sound like Avenged Sevenfold.”

Lyrical
ly, Shadows was striving for something more personal on the new album. “I feel we all experience a certain inner conflict, the push and pull between how we think we should act, or want to act, and the temptations and human instincts that we often blame when we don't end up being the person we want to be.”

In fact, the album's first single, “Almost Easy,” focuses on more similar temptations. “Afterlife” addresses the notion of “memento mori,” or the need to remember that death may intervene before we have reconciled differences with friends or loved ones.

These
guys worked their asses off making Avenged Sevenfold (enlisting studio legend Andy Wallace to mix the record), literally sweating every detail with the same (if not stronger) conviction they had years earlier in trying to prove themselves to the masses. But it's best you understand what was really going on during the three months these five best friends were holed up making Avenged Sevenfold.

They were
having the time of their lives.

M. Sh
adows (born Matthew Sanders on July 31st, 1981) is the lead singer of the band Avenged Sevenfold. He had minor surgery to repair a vocal strain, he has however spoken out on numerous occasions to dispute claims that surgery was responsible for the band's change in musical style. In fact Avenged Sevenfold's new sound is largely because of the bands ability to progress as artists since signing with major label Warner Brothers.

Shado
ws was formerly a member of a punk band called Successful Failure, during which time he penned the song Streets that would be recorded once Avenged Sevenfold was formed.

Sh
adows feels a strong support for the troops serving the United States and has very close friends who are currently in service. The song "M.I.A." was written in tribute to these friends. Before performing the song every night however Shadows stresses that Avenged Sevenfold is not a political band and do not intend to become one.
